Ratha Saptami is a Hindu festival that is celebrated on the seventh day (Saptami) in the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu month of Magha (January–February). It is dedicated to Lord Surya, the Hindu god of the sun. On this day, devotees take a dip in sacred rivers, perform puja and offer prayers to Lord Surya. It is believed that observing Ratha Saptami with devotion and purity can help to remove one’s sins and bring prosperity and good health. In 2023, Ratha Saptami will be celebrated on January 28th.
It is celebrated by performing puja (worship) to the Sun God, offering prayers, and taking dips in sacred rivers like Ganga and Godavari. It is also celebrated as the day when Lord Surya began his journey across the sky in his chariot drawn by seven horses. It is considered to be auspicious day to start new ventures, learning new skills, and begin new projects.
